SNUGGLED

SNUGGLED

Resting under the sheets
Snuggled into a perfect world
My eyes open to observe the darkness
Cloaking my existence

My world is hidden here
Deep inside this barrier
Perfectly protected
Perfectly at peace

For here I’m allowed to roam
To visit places in my mind
I’ve visited in real life
Or invented on my own

For dreams I might not control
Anymore than the real world
But in this middle world
I have complete control

But it is not a lonely world
Far from it
I listen to gentle breathing
From one so close

For while my love does sleep
And rest for another day
I can stand as a guardian
And dream while still awake

For in order to rest
I need to know I have someone
Someone who loves me
As much as I love them

For while my love does sleep
A smile forms upon the face
Of an angel drifting off in space
Leaving me to guard a heavenly body

After offering a gentle kiss
I close my eyes
And drift to sleep
Secured in love

A reflection on poetry

A reflection on poetry

Rather than writing a poem today, I thought I would reflect on poetry and why people like to write it and why people like to read it.

First, it is a great way to make a message easy to understand and in a form that is suited to be impressed in ones memory. Before the time of printing, people e used it to teach people a message they would remember forever. This is really the goal of any story teller.

Second, poetry allows a great ability to show deep emotions more than any other form. It is like given the ability to let go. To tell a feeling much easier than in a real life or novel type story.

Third and last in this reflection is the ability to use new words forced on the poet to make the story rhyme. I have often heard that many professional novelists will read poetry to gain a richer vocabulary. I agree, it allows a special relaxation while building words that can be used later.

To make a point I remember one simple poem I learned in college and think of every time I go to a public rest room. It is also good to post at home if you have teen age boys. I would give credit to the poet if I knew who wrote it, but I don’t.

If you sprinkle
When you tinkle
Please be neat
And clean the seat

ONE PERSON–ONE WORLD

ONE PERSON–ONE WORLD

For in the far reaches of the world
Where millions of people live
And hide from the cold
Yet hard fact of being alone

One has to wonder
Why one can be so alone
When there are so many
Calling this place home

But then to this world
You might be just one
A lonely voice in the night
Looking for another

So while you are looking
Hoping to make your life count
And leave your marking
To be noticed without a doubt

You have to remember
To the world you are but one
A single voice you hear
In a world of many million

But instead of despair
Or feelings of rejection
Remember one saying
So wise and true

To connect with one person
One very special person
Can be so much more
Than the millions alone

For in just one person
You can be the world
And because of one person
You can find your world
